For much of my life, golf wasn't a part of my story.
I didn't pick up my first club until I was 13 years old, and it took months of practice before I finally made my first par. What started as a challenge quickly became a passion.
I continued playing throughout high school, and when it came time for college, I knew I wanted golf to remain a part of my life while also pursuing my career and other ambitions.
Fortunately, one of the things that makes golf so special is the incredible range of opportunities and people
it brings together.
That idea is what ultimately inspired me to create Public Links.
Public Links is more than just a golf apparel brand. It is my way of staying connected to the game l love while building something that represents the culture, community, and accessibility that make golf so unique.
My goal is to grow Public Links through meaningful partnerships with golf professionals, athletes, businesses, and others who share the same passion for the game.
Ultimately, I hope Public Links becomes more than a brand. I want it to become a recognizable name within the golf community and, most importantly, a reflection of the journey that brought me to the game in the first place.

My fascination with golf started long before I ever owned a set of clubs.
Growing up in Texas, I remember watching the Skins Game on TV and seeing players like Lee Trevino and Chi Chi Rodriguez. When the tournament came to Onion Creek in Austin, I’d drive by and see the crowds and all the cars packed around the course. Something about it caught my attention and never really let go.
My first golf club was a single 7-iron. I didn’t own a full set until 1991, when I used one of my first paychecks in the Navy to finally buy a set of clubs.
Over the next 24 years, the Navy gave me the opportunity to travel the world, and golf usually found its way into the journey. I’ve been fortunate enough to play in Puerto Rico, Europe, the Middle East, around the South China Sea, and all over the United States.
My relationship with golf has never been particularly healthy. It’s a little like playing with fire. I love it. I hate it. It treats me terribly, gives me just enough hope to come back, and every once in a while rewards me with a shot that makes me forget everything else.
Living near Chambers Bay brought me back to the game in a big way. But somewhere along the way, I realized the score isn’t really the part I remember.
The best rounds are the ones I play with my son Luke, family, and close friends. Good people, a good walk, a few laughs, maybe a little money changing hands. That’s golf to me.
I’ve also never been a member of a country club. It’s just not my style.
I love public-access golf because you never really know who you’re going to get paired with. You might play with someone who barely knows which end of the club to hold, which probably describes 90 percent of us, or you might get paired with a scratch golfer who looks like he scraped together his last twenty bucks just to get one more round in.
That’s part of what makes it great. Public golf is a little like fishing in the ocean. You never know what you’re going to get. Show up, play the ball where it lies, enjoy the people you meet, and enjoy the day.
That spirit is a big part of Public Links.
I’ve always appreciated great clothing, and we want to make pieces inspired by golf without making clothes that only belong on a golf course. Public Links is meant to be worn for a round, dinner afterward, a weekend away, or an ordinary Tuesday.
And we’re not interested in cutting corners. If we put our name on it, we want it to be something we’re proud to wear ourselves.
